Rep. Batinick Completes Self-Defense Courses to Empower its Participants

Plainfield – Through January and February, State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) sponsored District-wide Self-Defense Courses with the internationally recognized educators at One Light Self Defense. His office first came across One Light’s program during their work with the Plainfield Junior Women’s Club. The One Light self-defense team, based right here in Illinois, began with diversified individuals that were well-trained in self-defense and embraced a passion to help others. They’ve traveled to such places as Nairobi, Kenya, where girls face physical attacks every day, and empowered women, girls, and community leaders with their defense techniques. Now, through the sponsorship of Rep. Batinick and the helpful willingness of the team at One Light Self Defense, women and girls around Shorewood, Plainfield, and Oswego have all been given the same opportunity.

Rep. Batinick said, “After seeing their work with the PJWC, I jumped at the chance to offer our communities this wonderful self-defense program. I want to thank the PJWC for initially bringing the One Light program to my attention, as this was a great way for people to get out and meet their neighbors, empower themselves, and build the networks that keep communities safe. I hope even more people take advantage of this opportunity in the future, as I plan on working with One Light again.”

Jeanette Brook, the Director at One Light, stated, “One Light Self-Defense would like to extend its utmost gratitude to State Representative Mark Batinick for his passion-in-action to keep women safe in his district.  Not only did he empower women to learn how to avoid and face assaults by offering free, hands-on, self-defense workshops, he forwarded donations to aid in the rescue and rehabilitation of victims of sex trafficking.  Together with One Light and the women in his district, all have united to take a stand to defend themselves as well as others in the community, U.S., and internationally.”

Rep. Batinick’s office has indicated that it will promote the next round of courses with One Light Self Defense once the summer activity program is set.
