PLAINFIELD – The Illinois Department of Insurance’s Get Covered Illinois 102-county tour will be visiting Plainfield on Friday December 1. The tour is part of an effort to provide Illinois residents with information about the Get Covered Illinois program during its open enrollment period.

"Anyone with questions about the Get Covered Illinois health insurance marketplace is welcome to attend the tour," said State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield). "It is a good chance to find out more about the program and learn how to sign up for benefits."

The tour will be stopping at Batinick’s Plainfield office, located at 24047 Lockport Street, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 1. During that time, staffers from the Department of Insurance will be available to answer questions and provide information about the program.

This Saturday marks an important start to the holiday season “Small Business Saturday!” It is important to shop local to help keep our small businesses thriving and keep our local economy booming. Small Business Saturday started in 2010 by American Express to add exposure to small businesses everywhere. In 2015 alone 95 million people shopped at small businesses on that day. Small businesses are the backbone of this community and truly vital to Illinois. Did you know that small businesses account for 99.6 percent of Illinois businesses? There are 311,609 minority owned small businesses in Illinois. In case you were wondering small businesses are businesses with assets under $10 million.  Here are some of the many reasons to shop small this holiday season, the 2.4 million Illinoisans that are employed by small businesses. Small businesses employ 46 percent of all Illinois employees. Chances are a member of your family or a neighbor owns or is employed by a small business. These goods and services they provide account for 90 percent of Illinois exports. So on Saturday go out and support one of Illinois’ 1.2 million small businesses. Chances are you will find just what you are looking for to complete your home or an extra special holiday gift. On Saturday I will be traveling throughout the 97 district with my family enjoying the great variety our area offers and I hope to see you out there.
